NEW DELHI, India: Office of Mr. V.P. Chaddha, consultant to Bofors, was raided on Friday morning. Establishments of other defence purchases agents were also raided. Mr. Chaddha is believed to have been the middleman in the Bofor’s deal left the country along with his family members several days ago and an employee was in charge of the house. The employee said that he had no idea where Mr. Chaddha has taken his family. The raid followed the release of a report by the National Audit Bureau, Sweden, that Commissions were settled after the deal with Bofors and that considerable sums of money was disbursed in connection with the deal. Mr. Chaddha had owned the electronic corporation with Bofors.

Payments have been made for consulting services, according to Bofors. There was considerable excitement in Basant Vihar market when the raid was carried out. By about one p.m. raiding officer had taken into possession all documents they could lay their hands on at Mr. Chaddha’s office at 34 Basant Vihar Market. The establishments of other companies who had dealings with the electronic and other defense purchases were also raided.
