IMPHAL, India, July 7, Reuter: Tribal rebels shot dead three paramilitary policemen in a busy market in the northeast Indian State of Manipur on Thursday, police said.
They said members of the Separatist National Socialist Council of Nagaland killed two majors and a private of the AssSam rifles in the town of Ukrul, near the Burmese border. Thousands of paramilitary police and troops are deployed in Manipur and neighboring Nagaland, were Naga tribal extremists are fighting for an independent homeland.
