DHAKA, April 25, Reuter; President Reagan has pledged continuing U.S. political and economic support for Bangladesh, the official BSS news agency said today.
“You will have our understanding and good wishes as you continue to broaden and deepen your democratic experience”, Reagan told President Hossain Mohammad Ershad in a letter delivered by U.S. Ambassador Howard Schaffer.
Ershad, who seized power in a bloodless coup in March 1982, restored democracy last November after winning a Presidential election.
“We intend to remain an active partner in Bangladesh’s economic development”, Reagan said, praising Ershad’s policy of reliance on private enterprise.
