MRITSAR, Punjab, India: June 22, Reuter: Some unidentified gunmen killed nine more people in Punjab on Wednesday as the north Indian state was still reeling from a bomb attack which left at least 27 dead in the holy city of Amritsar.
Police said five people were shot dead in one attack in Sangrur district in Southern Punjab.
The others, including a Communist Party of India activist, were killed in separate attacks in various parts of the embattled state.
More than 60 people have died since the weekend in a bloody resurgence of a violent wave, officials said.
Home Minister, Buta Singh blamed the Sikh freedom fighters for the recent incidents.
“Communal harmony should be maintained at all costs,” he said in an urgent appeal.
