AMRITSAR, Punjab, India June 24, and Reuter: Continuing violence claimed yet more victims on Thursday night and Friday and many shops in the holy city of Amritsar were closed in protest.
A man died in hospital three days after being injured in a double bombing in the city Centre, becoming the explosion’s 28th victim, Amritsar police said.
And on Thursday night gunmen opened fire on a group of about 45 people watching a video on the outskirts of the city.
Thirteen year old Tasman Singh was killed outright. His sister Bano, 18, died in hospital on Friday morning, police said.
Nearly 1,400 people have died this year in the violence where the Sikhs are campaigning for an independent Sikh homeland.
Amritsar markets near the site of Tuesday’s explosions were closed on Friday as the mostly Hindu traders staged a protest against the violence.
Two gunmen shot dead a policeman in the city of Ludhiana on Thursday night, the Press Trust of India said.
