AMRITSAR, India: The S.G.P.C. Executive Committee has unanimously accepted the resignation of Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Kirpal Singh and that of Head Priest of Darbar Sahib Giani Sahib Singh. The High Priests were under constant pressure after the election of Gurcharan Singh Tohra as President of S.G.P.C. to submit the resignation but Keptindecisive upto the last minute. Even on December 24, emissary kept shut between the S.G.P.C. executive and the Jathedars who finally relented.
The deadline for submitting the resignation was December 22 but it was extended. The decision was made at a close door meeting of the S.G.P.C. executive presided over by the senior vicePresident, Mr. Harminder Singh in the absence of Mr. Tohra who is in jail. The executive appointed Prof. Darshan Singh as the acting Jathedar Akal Takht and Giani Puran Singh, acting Head Priest of the Golden Temple. The Executive Committee of S.G.P.C. accepted the resignations of Kirpal Singh and Sahib Singh from their posts.
