CHANDIGARH India: Ms. Pritam Kaur, President of the women’s wing of the AISSF who was recently released from Jodhpur, alleged in a Press note here that Ms. Papinder Kaur and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, both Federation activists, who were arrested near Jallianwala Bagh recently, had been tortured by the police.
She alleged that the two activists were taken to the interrogation center at the Mall mandi camp in Amritsar where they were kept in illegal confinement for three days.
They were given electric shocks.
The activists were arrested on March 30. Their parents sent telegram to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court the following day seeking his intervention. The arrested leaders were produced in court on April 2 and remanded in police custody till April 4
The judge accepted their lawyer’s plea that they should be medically examined. They are students of Khalsa College in Amritsar.
Mr. Avtar Singh Sidhu, President of the Youth Akali Dal, and Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina and Mr. Harpreet Singh Vachhoa, both leaders of the AISSF, and the SGPC Secretary, Mr. Bhan Singh, have all demanded the immediate release of the two women leaders.
