OSAKA, Japan, Reuter: Asia’s top woman sprinter, Lydia De Vega of the Philippines, set a new personal best for the 60 meters dash in an indoor international athletic meeting,
Vega clocked 7.37 seconds, shaving 20 hundredths of a second off her personal record set last year.
“I guess my time was quite enough. And I ‘want to improve the time of 100 meters from my best 11.28 seconds to 11 flat for the Seoul Olympics,” the 23yearold Filipino said.
She said the plans to go to the United States next month to train for the Olympic in September.
World record holder Patrik Sjoberg of Sweden won the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.30 meters, 11 centimeters lower than his world! Indoor mark set a year ago.
The 32yearold Swede, silver medalist at the Los Angeles Olympics, attributed his poor mark to flu and inadequate preparation for the one day invitational indoor competition.
Asked about prospects for the Olympics, he said: “Of course, I want to win the Gold medal with the world record”.
