Caste Pride Has Murdered the real Son of Tamil Nadu – We Demand Justice for Kavin Selvaganesh”

The Bahujan Dravidia Party (BDP) expresses its deepest sorrow and unrelenting rage at the brutal caste-driven murder of Mr. Kavin Selvaganesh, a young gold-medalist B.E. graduate working with TES 37 in Chennai, who was savagely hacked to death in KTC Nagar, Thoothukudi.

On July 28, 2025, in broad daylight, Kavin was attacked with a machete by individuals known to the family, including Surjeet and his parents. They mercilessly hacked him to death in what can only be described as a pre-meditated caste pride killing.

According to a detailed written complaint by Mrs. Tamil Selvi, Kavin’s mother and a government school teacher belonging to the scheduled caste  community, this is not a personal dispute, but a caste-obsessed execution,  an act of violence born from deep-rooted hatred toward an oppressed community’s success and dignity.

We ask this society:

What is the use of Kavin receiving a university gold medal? What is the worth of earning ₹2 lakh per month if it cannot protect his dignity in a casteist society?

In a land that boasts of social justice, what does it mean when a young Bahujan man is murdered in public just to insult the education he earned and the success he achieved?

This is not just murder — this is a message of humiliation, a casteist lynching meant to remind the oppressed of their “place.” And that, in itself, is the most cowardly act imaginable.

Our Demands:

1. Immediate arrest of all named accused.
2. CB-CID inquiry to be initiated without delay. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) must be constituted to probe the caste angle thoroughly.
3. The Tamil Nadu Government must officially declare this a caste-based crime under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and take a firm public stand.
4. The family must be provided with police protection, legal support, and a fast-tracked judicial process.

Caste pride has once again silenced a bright young star — a youth who embodied hope, merit, and mobility. Kavin was a symbol of our movement, a child of our struggle. For that, he was punished.

This crime reminds us that for the oppressed in this country, success is never enough — you may rise by merit, but you are still hunted by caste.

We will not remain silent. We will fight this legally, politically, and socially, until justice is done and the blood of our sons is no longer spilled on the streets of Tamil Nadu.

This is not an isolated incident….

From Ilavarasan to Sankar, from the tribal children of Jhalawar to Kavin of Thoothukudi — this is a clear pattern of targeted killings aimed at scheduled caste  assertion and social mobility.

 How long will Tamil Nadu pretend to be progressive while the blood of the oppressed flows in its streets?

 Is this the Dravidian model we were promised?

 Is this Periyar’s Tamil Nadu?

Shame. Shame. Shame.

We urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the State SC/ST Commission, and the National Human Rights Commission to take immediate cognizance, file appropriate cases under the SC/ST (POA) Act, and ensure the dignity, justice, and protection of Kavin’s family.

We will not rest until justice prevails.

Kavin is my sister’s son.

Since childhood, my son and Kavin have shared a special bond — they weren’t just cousins, they were best friends, always talking, laughing, and supporting each other like brothers. The news of Kavin’s death has shaken my son deeply. He’s been struggling to process the pain.

Today, in his social media status, he wrote something that struck me hard — and true.

He said:  “No one should say that Kavin’s soul will rest in peace.”

And I agree with him.

Because until this caste system — this violent, dehumanising structure — is completely destroyed, no one born at the bottom will ever live in peace.

 

So why should we say “Rest in Peace” for the dead, when the living still suffer?

Why should we use those words to ease our conscience, while ignoring our responsibility?
