GUWA HATI: Nothing is impossible in the “Terrorist Raj New Delhi has imposed on the people of Assam. On Dec. 23, 1994, two widely circulated News weeklies published from Guwahati carried a news item mentioning about a hit list prepared by the democratic Government itself. According to the two news items. Hiteswer Saikia and his cronies in Dispur have prepared a hit list of 10 prominent persons of the state, who will be killed before the next general election. They include prominent journalists, politicians, lawyers and leading citizens who have been highly critical about the despotic rule and reign of terror in the name of running a democratic government Incidentally, the first two persons in this hit list are Ajit Kumar Bhuyan and Parag Kumar Das, Conveners of MASS, who were earlier harassed and arrested on several occasions for their crusade against state terrorism.
At first, the state government had immediately denied the news item is baseless and politically motivated. However, so low has been the credibility of this government in the eyes of the public that, no one was convinced of the government’s denial And ultimately, under public pressure, the government was forced to concede to the demand for a judicial enquiry in this subject. It may be mentioned that, earlier on several occasions Saikia government’s direct involvement in political killings and kidnappings were proved with substantial evidence. However, just because this government has been sincerely serving the colonial interest of New Delhi, no action could be taken Deinst all such proved criminal.
