OTTAWA: It has been confirmed that Canadian citizen Harpal Singh Gosal was arrested in India on Jan. 19. 1995.

Gosal, a resident of Toronto suburb of Rexdale, has been charged under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA), the Indian Arms Act, and the Foreigners Registration Act

Ashok Chaubey. Counselor at the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, confirmed last week that Gosal “explosive material was found on Gosal” at the time of the arrest. Chaubey was unable to explain the lengthy delay in locating Gosal who arrived in New Delhi on December 31, 1994 and was last seen in Pughwara, Punjab.Canada’s Foreign Affairs officials told 3 delegation of Ontario Sikh Gurdwaras and Liberal MP Gurbax Singh Malhi at a meeting in Ottawa on January 12, that they had requested information on Gosal’s disappearance from the Indian High Commission the previous day, Indian High Commission official Chaubey was unable to explain the reason for the three week delay of any knowledge on the whereabouts of the Canadian Sikh.

It is understood that Gosal is being held in Patiala District.
