PATIALA: Harsharan Singh Bali, Minister for Industries, Delhi government, said that his government had registered seven cases of murder. against H.K.L.Bhagat, former Congress Minister and Sajjan Kumar, member of Parliament, for their alleged involvement in murderous assault on Sikhs during the November 1984 riots in which about 1600 Sikhs, including women and children, were killed.

Bali stated this while addressing a function organized by the Punjabi Vikas Manch (PVM). He said that the Delhi government had been wholeheartedly pursuing the murder cases registered against these leaders and had also hired the services of Soli Sorabji, renowned counsel, to defend the state.

When the BJP government came to power, said Bali, it asked the Central Bureau of Intelligence to hand over the files of murder cases naming Bhagat and Saffan Kumar but the important documents concerning the investigations of these cases were found mutilated and damaged beyond recognition. Therefore, the government had to order the investigation. Even the police also did not fully cooperate, said Bali.
