NEW DELHI: The Congress. on Jan. 9, hinted at disciplinary action against a senior Congress leader, Arjun Singh, with the Central Election Committee (CEC) strongly deploring his “mischievous” letter to the party president, saying that it was aimed at creating confusion in the minds of party men facing elections in five States.
Briefings newsmen, the party general secretary, Janardhan Poojary, said that CEG al its meeting, took strong exception to “such deliberate acts to weaken the organization at this crucial juncture by a member of the CWC and CEC.”
Poojary said that the CEC. 1Icndcd among others by N.D. Tiwari, adopted a “unanimous” resolution criticizing Singh for raising doubts and insinuating that the party men who were loyal to Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi might be denied tickets.
To a specific query on the disciplinary action that might be taken against the former Minister, he said. “The party high command is sized of the matter.”
A curt, “I have no comments was the response of Arjun Singh when newsmen sought his reaction later on the CEC resolution “I have made my passion clear the Letter,” he said.
Asked whether he felt the CEO resolution was a prelude to some action, Singh quipped: “It is not my concern.”
Singh, in his letter to P.V. Narasimha Rao last week, had urged him to ensure that claims of loyal and committed party activists were not ignored while selecting nominees’ for the Assembly elections in five states.
