This the text of a press release that details what happened to a Canadian Citizen, who just happens to be a Sikh, during a visit to India
Is this the Indian way of welcoming foreigners?
Recently Katia, a French tourist faced typical Indian police hospitality in Chandigarh. She was raped by the grandson of Premier of Punjab with the help of Punjab Police
While the Katia episode is still fresh in people’s minds, another foreigner-Harpal Singh Gosal – a Canadian resident of Mount Olive Dr. Rexdale, Toronto was picked up by a secret squad known as the CATs of Punjab police on the last calendar day of 1994.
A present statement issued by the wife of Mr. Gosal has confirmed the disappearance of her husband. She has further confirmed that the Canadian High Commission and family members of Harpal Singh have not been able to even know the whereabouts of her Canadian citizen husband.
On an earlier occasion also Canadian citizens were detained in India for a long time without any known charges. They were brutally tortured. Had the Canadian embassy in New Delhi and other Human Rights groups not moved immediately they would have been history by now.
The Sikh community is already frustrated by the Liberal Govt. be- cause of its blind eye towards one of the world’s worst human rights violator countries and are anxiously looking forward to see how the Govt. gets the immediate and safe release of Mr. Harpal Singh Gosal.
