NEW DELHI: Versatile Pargat Singh will lead the 16-member Indian team, which includes Bombay’s new sensation Raju Bagade, for the European tour later this month,
Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) President Raghunandan Prasad announced the team on Wednesday evening after a one-hour Meeting with selectors and chief coach Balkrishan Singh following the two trials held Wednesday.
The chief coach retained his faith in goalkeepers Mark Paterson and AB Subbiah while drafting in C. Poonaccha in the defense line along with Pargat Singh, Angelus Belung and Mohammed Aref.
Sukhjit Singh and Sanjeev Kumar carned a nod as halves while Bagade was the only new comer in the national squad Sukhjit Singh did duty for the second squad in the Indira Gandhi international gold cup last year.
The Indian team leaves here for Barcelona, on the early hours of May 24 on its two-week tour of Spain, Germany and Holland.

The IHF Secretary, Prof.Gursewak Singh said that two players, Jagdev Singh and Sanjay Bisht were not considered out of the 26 in the camp as they were on the injured list.
Defender Jagdev Singh had a fractured right hand suffered during the camp here while Bisht had a ‘loosened jawbone’ after being injured during the federation cup at Lucknow recently,
He said current the camp will continue till the team’s departure and after return another camp will be held at Bangalore from the last week of June till the team leaves for participation in the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament at Ipoh, Malaysia during July.
