MOHALI: Gurkirat Singh, controversial grandson of the Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, has announced his intentions to contest the next Vidhan Sabha elections from the Banur Assembly constituency. An indication in this regard was given by Gurkirat Singh himself while he was on a visit to Phase XI here.
He had come to listen to grievances of people who are living here after they fled Delhi following the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Later, while answering to a question from news persons, he called the Katia and latest Gidderbaha episodes a “political game” aimed to malign his image and claimed “innocence” in both matters, In the Gidderbaha case in which it was alleged that Gurkirat had kidnapped lady worker of the Akali Dal he has also filed a defamation suit against president of the Shiromant Akali Dal, Parkash Singh Badal.
