LUDHIANA: Three residents of Gill village, near here, have charged the Local police with illegally detaining and torturing them for one week despite their possessing anticipatory bail orders.
Mr. Gurdeep Singh and Mr. Gurcharan Singh, both brothers engaged in small transport business and their truck driver Ramesh Kumar Dec. 4th, revealed that the district and sessions judge Mr. M.L, Singal had stayed their arrest on November 23rd and confirmed their anticipatory bail ‘on December 2nd.
However, they alleged, that ignoring these orders the Atam Nagar police picked them up on November 26 as they had a land dispute with their uncle Machhinder Singh and his two sons Harinder Singh and Jagpal Singh. Both the parties are claiming ownership of two bigha plot. They allege they were kept in the} police chowki where they were severely tortured “to force them forgive, up the claim on the plot.” They showed swollen ankles and scars on their limbs as proof, .
While two men were let off Sunday ‘evening, Gurdeep Singh was released Monday because their contempt of court application was to come up) Monday before Mr. Singal. The application was filed by their relatives ‘on November 27, through their counsel Mr, Pradip Sharma, charging’ that the police violated the court orders of staying their arrest by detaining them unofficially.
