CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court last week issued notice of motion to state of Punjab and the Director General, of Police, KP.S. Gill, in response to a writ petition filed alleging the attempts by the DGP to disposes the petitioner of 85 big has of land.
Justice Swatanter Kumar after hearing Ranjan Lakhan Pal, counsel for the petitioner, Sar Partap Singh, issued notice for August 17.
It was alleged that the father of the petitioner, Bachan Singh, had bought 85 big has of land in Kalal Majra vilTageof Ludhiana district in 1959 from the father-in-law of the DGP, The total cost of the land which amounted to Rs 13,000, was not paid ina lump sum of Rs4,000 was paid to the original Owners in 1963 while the remaining part of the payment was given in 1978. ‘The 3/4 part of the land was mortgaged by the two brothers of the: purchasers before the full and final payment was made. Now, Mrs. Heminder Parkash Kaur, wile of the DGP, wants the possession to the land be restored to her as the petitioners allegedly were not able to pay a sum Of Rs 2,000 to her father. The petitioners alleged that the Punjab Police was after them and their life had become miserable, Roshan Lal, claiming to be holding, the Power of attorney, Visited the house of the petitioners, around four months back In company of Inderiit Singh Batta, DSP, and at present PA of the DGP, the petitioners said.
They threatened that the possession of the land be restored to them or face consequences, On July 18, the police Picked up the petitioner and took him other PA of the DGP who repeated his threat.
“Lakhan Pal alleged that the entire family of the petitioners had gone underground to evade harassment, and apprehended that he might be involved in some nonsalable offence. He Pleaded that if the respondents had any dispute regarding the payment they should be directed to take recourse to the law of the land.
