CHANDIGARH: After a lot of dillydallying, the Haryana Government has finally placed under suspension the three’ police officers who have been cooling their heels in jail since their conviction for contempt by the ‘Supreme Court, on May 2.
The officers are Anil Dawra, former SP of Hisar, Sham Lal Goel, former Additional SP of Hisar, and Rajinder Singh Yaday, inspector and former SHO of Hisar Sadar police station. Dawra and Goel belong to the IPS,
Normally, a government employee is placed under suspension if he is kept in police or judicial custody for 48 hours but nothing was done in the case of these officers after they were sentenced to imprisonment by the highest court of the land.
Their suspension orders were quietly issued last weekend after the Supreme Court rejected their revision petition, The officers have now filed a mercy petition with the President, Shankar Dayal Sharma, it is learnt.
They were convicted for misleading the court by denying illegal detention ‘of an employee of a Calcutta businessman with whom the chief minister’s son-in-law, Anoop Bishnoi, had a financial dispute.
While Dawra was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, Goel and Yadav were awarded three months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,500 each, or an additional 15 days’ imprisonment in lieu of fine.
