BHATINDA: The Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, said that Akalis didn’t want transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab.

He said that the Akali Dal leaders had been exploiting the issue of Chandigarh for political purposes. He said that almost all the senior Akali leaders had posh bungalows in the Union Territory. They favored “status quo” of the city, he added.

Beant Singh also accused Parkash Singh Badal and Surjit Singh Barnala, former chief ministers of complicating the river waters issue. He said that Punjab would continue to get water as per the agreement of 1985.
