NEW DELHI: The Railway Minister, C.K Jaffer Sharief, has claimed that two thirds of the Congress MPs were against the extension of Terror stand Disruptive Activities (Prevention) act after its term is over on May 2. Reiterating his stand against the controversial TADA, Sharief said that any Government supporting this kind of a law would be brought down, including my government.”
“If my government also supports it naturally Tam opposed to it,” he said in an interview to Eyewitness, a Doordarshan Current Affairs program. “I am of the opinion that more than two thirds of the members of the party are opposed to TADA,” he said. Criticizing the Home Minister, S.B. Chavan’s statements that TADA would not be repealed Mr. Sharief said that many Congress MPs are worried about this.
Describing this as unfortunate, he said “the concern is that if the Home Minister of the country is making such repeated statements, then the people who are misusing TADA will get more encouragement.” The Railway Minister said that some governments, such as the former Sharad Pawar government in Maharashtra had already paid a price for misusing TADA.
