Stockton: Akal Takht Jathedar Professor Manjit Singh has failed to deliver the goods. He has been used by traditional Akalis to promote their pro-India agenda and to suppress the voice of Khalistan leader, Simranjit Singh Mann, says D.S. Gill, chairman of the International Human Rights Organization, based in Punjab.

In his interview with the WSN here this week, Mr. Gill said that the Akal Takht Jathedar should not have involved himself in the so-called “unity.” By doing so, he said, the Jathedar has degraded his position as the head of the highest seat of the Sikhs.

“He had no power to dilute the decision (Gurmat as) already taken at the Akal Takht, This time, too, he had failed to take any action against the Akali leaders who had betrayed the spirit of the Amritsar Declaration.” The net result of the so-called unity effort by the Jathedar is that the Amritsar Declaration leader Mr. Mann has been booked in a number of cases under TADA. Full text of Mr. Gill’s interview will be published in the next issue, Editor.
