JAGRAON(LUDHIANA): The president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress (Tiwari), Jagmect Singh Brar, last week called upon the people of the border state to reject the new Chief Minister, Harcharan Singh Brar and the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Parkash Singh Badal.

He was addressing a largely attended public meeting here and said that these leaders represented forces of feudalism which were antithetical to the spirit of democracy and promoted family rule.

In this light, he rejected the slogan of “Congress, bhajao, Punjab bachao” given by the SAD and gave new slogans “azmai hue bhajao, nawen lyao” and “sarmaidar bhajao, lokbachao,” meaning thereby that the people should opt for the new, youthful mass Jeaders and reject the old, feudal, tested ones.

Mr. Brar, who heads the rival Congress in the state, remarked that the people need not be afraid of the Congress.

This was the first political conference of Brarin Ludhiana district after several months and it drew large crowd, particularly youths.

Brar also disagreed with the proposal of the ruling party leaders for asking the Chief Minister for seeking the post of them PCC (I) chief. Observing that they were settling wrong precedent, he said the Chief Minister would not find time to run the party.

The youth leader, who was hailed with slogans of “awaz-e-Punjab” and “Jagmeet Brar Punjab sambhal, bacha budha terenaal,” on arrival at the Lajpat Rai Memorial park, lambasted the Center for not learning any lesson from the assassinations of Akali Dal chief, Harchand Singh Longowal decade ago and of Beant Singh recently.

Observing that the government had done practically nothing to resolve the Punjab problem, he warned that any further delay in accepting the ‘genuine demands of Punjab may lead to revival of militancy in the state.
