JALANDHAR: SGPC president… Tohra said last week that the Center’s discomfiture at the premature disclosure of the ‘human bomb’ theory in the Beant Singh assassination case ‘was because it had failed to show the involvement of a large number of persons, particularly Sikhs, in the conspiracy.
Speaking at a seminar here last week, ‘Tohra specified that the Center was upset because the disclosures made by Punjab Police chief K.P.S. Gill ‘and the Chandigarh 1G recently had ‘upset its plans to implicate many persons by projecting it as a larger conspiracy, Tohra made these remarks at a seminar organized by the Gurmat Sidhant Study Circle here to mark the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Hargobind.
Urging the Sikhs to get united to face difficulties being faced by them, he said the community only wanted respect in the country for which they had made great contributions.
Referring to the world Sikh samelan, Tohra said a lot of disinformation was being spread about the Sikhs to create hatred against them; the sammelan ‘would discuss several issues pertaining to the Sikhs.
In his presidential remarks, a former Punjab minister and a member of the working committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhjinder Singh, literally soughta separate homeland for Sikhs, saying that this was the only community which did not have a country of its own.
Eminent academician Principal Bharpur Singh said the Sikhs were not a linguistic or ethnic group but had an identity of their own, He added that there was section which did not understand the psyche of the community.
Another speaker, Piara Singh Bhogal, said Sikhsnever wanted separation from India, Even partition of the country in 1947 want the responsibility of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
