CHANDIGARH: Jaswinder Singh Khajala, area commander of the Khalistan Commando Force was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Gurdaspur district of Punjab Sunday night. Over the week 98 died.

Elsewhere in the state 11 persons, including a police constable and a militant were killed overnight Saturday.

Khajala, carrying a reward of Rs.100, 000 on his head was killed near Dhabai village under Qadian police station area.

Constable Lakhbir Singh, on guard duty at railway crossing at Rajpura in Patiala district, was shot dead.

Balbir Singh was shot at Romana Chak village in Amritsar district and another person Raghbir Singh at Kahan Singh wala village in Ferozepur district Saturday night.

Gurmati Kaur, injured in a shootout at Route village of Faridkot district succumbed to here injuries in the hospital raising the toll in the incident to two.

A farmer, Kashmir Singh, was killed in Sadholehal village.

Militants gunned down Gurdev Singh, in Khijrabad village in Ropar district, while two bullet riddled bodies were found near Sat Koha village in Gurdaspur district.

Harjit Kaur who was injured in indiscriminate firing by police at Shivpur Mohalla in Ludhiana district Saturday succumbed.

CHANDIGARH: Twenty two people, including two constables and six militants were killed, and three persons were kidnapped while a Congress I leader was shot at and wounded in the northern Indian state of Punjab since Thursday night.

Armed men went to the house of a constable, Gurmail Singh, in Nawan Thatha village of Kapurthala district, and kidnapped his son, Harpal Singh, police said here.

The shootout began after an ambushed of a convoy of army men. Three of the five men killed in the encounter were identified as Gurmukh Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Gursahib Singh. Four other men fled.

The injured army men, Naibs Subedar Charn Prasad and Dawinder Singh, Lance Naik Chandram Singh and Jawan Mandranjan Singh, were admitted to the army hospital. The army men later recovered three AK47 and an AK74 Chinese assault rifles, a self-loading rifle, 6,000 cartridges and four letter pads of the Khalistan Commando Force,

Assailants gunned down Sant Kambli Wale, his two gunmen and two followers, in village Pipli in Faridkot district Wednesday. A railway gateman, Ruldu Ram, was shot dead by militants near Geetwala village in the same district.

Also shot dead was one person at Gumitwala in Bhatinda district and Malkeet Singh in Manimajra village in Ropar district, A bullet ridden body was recovered from a village near Ferozepur.

A report from Hissar in Haryana said armed men gunned down Sikh religious leader Janak Raj, in Ratia Tuesday night.

Militant shot dead police constable Rajinder Singh and his father Gopal Singh in Mushal village in Amritsar. The constable was attached to the veteran communist party of India leader, Satpal Dang, as a gunman and had gone to his village on leave. Dang is on the hit list of militants.

A report from Patiala said four persons, including assistant sub inspector Gurdev Singh and head constable Shingara Singh, were killed and three seriously injured in an attack near Nabha gate there Tuesday night.

Police recovered the bullet riddled body of a youth in Amritsar district.

Militants also shot dead Sardool Singh in Takli village in Batala police district.

Seven members of two families, a journalist and four militants were among 23 persons killed Oct 23.

Black Cats shot dead seven members of two families in village were identified in Ferozepore district Monday night. The killed were identified as Babu Ram, Harbans Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Jeeta Singh, Nirmal Rani, Jatinder Pal and Darshan Lal.
