According to Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, Lt Governor P.K. Dave has directed the Home Secretary to ensure that Delhi Police acts on 21 cases, recommended by the Jain-Agarwal committee, one of the many to probe the Delhi riots which followed Indira Gandhi’s assassination.

DPCC president Bhagat and Outer Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar are among those who find mention in the 21 cases kept pending with Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) all these years.

The Jain-Agarwal committee, which was prematurely wound up, had identified certain police officials who had tampered with official records or deliberately conducted faulty investigations to help the accused.

“The CBI role in the matter has been shocking. They have not even bothered to prepare files.

Bundles of documents have been kept aside all these years: It is obvious CBI was under pressure not to act… It speaks volumes of the callousness with which this issue has been treated.
