JAMMU: Government Monday blamed eight militant organizations in Kashmir, besides sealing two presses printing newspapers which had allegedly published anti-national statements of militants.
The organizations which were banned are Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Jamat E Islami, Hizbul Mujahideen, Jammu and Kashmir Students Liberation Front, MahezEAzadi, Islamic Students League, People’s League and Islami Jamiat E Tulba.
A notification issued in Srinagar, summer capital of the state, Monday evening said the functioning of these organizations has been banned with immediate effect as their activities were unlawful and they were indulging in secessionist activities.
The ban order said the organizations were building up an atmosphere of subversion. The militant Muslim organizations fighting for secession from India, have unleashed a wave of violence in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir that has killed over 100 people in the past five months. These organizations are actively being supported by Pakistan.
Security forces that have imposed dusk to dawn curfew in the five km area along the line of actual control in North West Kashmir arrested one hardcore militant and captured a huge cache of arms, including AK47 assault rifles hand grenades and cartridges.
In continued house to house searches, 32more hardcore militants have been arrested in several localities of Srinagar and other towns. Over 10,000 houses have been searched in the last week in intensified combing operations in Srinagar and other towns of the valley.
