NEW DELHI: Barely 12 hours after the two explosions rocked the Red Fort area, another explosion went off near the railway intersection in Badlt village in northwest Delhi last week, injuring an eight year old boy.
A few hours later, another explosion ‘was reported at the Panipat railway “Station, 50 km north of Delhi in ‘Haryana, injuring another eight persons, Meanwhile, in Jammu, a major tragedy was averted with the arrest of a person, carrying a large number of detonators.
Both the explosions are believed to be connected and apparently the low intensity crude bombs had been concealed in the Muri Express which was on its way to Amritsar al that time.
‘The police said that the Punjab outfit, Khalistan Liberation Force (Bab‘ban), claimed responsibility for the twin Red Fort blasis, injuring about “SO persons. A report from Srinagar said that a xerox copy of a hand written statement of the KLF (Babbar) was dropped in the PTT office. The statement claimed that the bombs were triggered by a remote control device {0 put a stop to the alleged atrocities being committed on Sikhs and Muslim’s in Punjab and Delhi by the security forces. The outfit further warned that more explosions were likely in the Capital.
Meanwhile, top officials of the Union Home Ministry, security agencies and the police held a series of meetings to beef up security measures, especially in view of the ongoing festivities of Rambila, Durga Puja and Dussehra.
A state of high alert has been sounded throughout the region. The Amritsar bound Mur Express ‘was being searched at Panipat following report of a blast at the Badli rail‘sway ctossing in Delhi, when the blast occurred. ‘A highlevel team of Delni police have been rushed to Panipat to assist the local police in investigations into the blast there.
The injured have been to the Panipat civil hospital while the entire area has been cordoned off.
The Deputy Commissioner of Panipat, Sanjiv Kumar, said the bomb inset stick type hand grenade” which was probably abandoned by the carriers after the train and the passengers were subjected to a search following a call from Delhi police.
He said the grenade was picked up by Saipal, a 13 year old boy, and Ravi, a cobbler pulled out the cap, triggering the blast. “They are seriously injured and have suffered a lot of blood loss, the said.
Vijay, a shoeshine boy from Ahmedabad, saw Satpal and Ravi fiddling with the bottlelike object, Sanjiv Kumar said, adding that there appears to be a patter behind the series of
blasts in Delhi and now in Panipat.
