COLOMBO: Nearly 6,000 Sri Lankan Tamils who had fled to Indias Tamil Nadu state to escape a raging civil war have so far retuned to the Island Nation since January 21, Sri Lankans rehabilitation secretary Christie Silva, told reporters Thursday,

The 1,680 families which have returned include 300 government servants. They were being absorbed back into their old jobs, silva said.

Another 500 refugees were expected to have landed at Talai mannar in Northern Sri Lanka Thursday. Nearly a thousand more would be coming on March eight according to information given by the Indian government, he said: Rights of the people in Myanmar, the agency said.
