Amritsar, India; Gunmen killed six Hindus and injured two in a bloody shooting spree through three towns in Punjab Friday. Police later cornered the five gunmen, killing two and injuring three in a shootout.

Thirteen people died in a 24hour period since Thursday night in violence related incidents,

‘They said five gunmen in a car began to rampage that extended to three towns when they opened fire ‘on a brick factory in Dailpur, 34 miles southwest of the Sikh holy city of Amritsar. Three Hindus were killed in the attack.

The gunmen then drove to the nearby town of Shahbajpura, where they sprayed a clothing store with bullets, hitting a man, his wife and two sons. The woman and one of her children later died in a hospital.

The group fled to Ghurkwind, about 15 miles south of Amritsar, where they shot and killed a truck driver.

Security forces that had been searching for the gunmen, spotted them driving in Malluwal, about 12 miles south of Amritsar. During 30-minute shootout, two of the gunmen were killed and the other three were injured but escaped.

Police said they recovered two submachine guns, a rifle and a hand grenade.
