DHAKA(PTI): Nearly 5,00,000 people have been marooned as flood situation in south eastern districts of Chittagong and Cox’s bazar deteriorated further with incessant rains till Aug.23, reports reaching here said,

The rain water gushing down the hills played havoc for lakhs of people, The coastal areas and off Shore islands also flooded due to surging water,

The port city of Chittagong is now cut off from Gengamati and Khagrachari as the roads connecting these districts have been blocked by landslides at several points,

Sea water caused breaches in embankments along Swandip, Banshkhali and Patenga costs. Nearly, 50 shrimp cultivation projects located at the coastal belt in Chittagong and Cox’s bazar were exposed to Saline water and de vested following the breaches in the embankments.

Standing crops on vast areas in Chittagong and Cox’s bazar have gone under water.
