BATALA: Two senior Border Security Force (BSF) officers and a soldier were killed and six others injured in a powerful land mine blast near village Kot Todar Mal of Gurdaspur district in Punjab late Tuesday, police said here Wednesday, PTI reports.

Deputy Commandant Davinder Singh, assistant commandant Laxman Das and Constable Jawahar Das, all belonging to the 32nd battalion, were killed when their jeep passed over land mines laid by militants.

Three of the critically wounded have been shifted to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital at Amritsar.

Senior police officials said militants had laid a series of land mines on the road to Quadian. As the BSF mobile patrolling party passed over the road, the mines were blasted with remote control devices. The patty escaped two blasts but the third blew up the jeep, killing the three on the spot.

This is the latest in the series of explosions in Batala district during the last three days. Ina similar blast, senior superintendent of police S.K. Goel had escaped unhurt when a powerful landmine exploded near village Nanak Chack on Sunday.
