ISLAMABAD: Two persons were shot dead in Karachi and army called out in Punjab town, Jhang, following fresh incidents violence and arson in the last 24 hours, reports here said, PTI reports,

In Karachi, the owner of a general store in Juna market was killed when he resisted attempts by armed men to loot his shop. The shop owner, who grappled with the intruders, managed to overpower one of them. The other four however managed to escape.

Fazal Abbas, the store owner, succumbed to bullet injuries in the civil hospital.

In another incident, unidentified assailants shot dead Jabbar in Chakiwara and escaped. with Rs 50,000 in cash which he Was Carrying.

Intension-ridden Jhang, troops were called out to assist civil administration as angry mobs set fire to at least seven houses and four shops.

The town has witnessed a spurt of violence following the murder of prominent religious scholar Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangwi in Shang on Thursday last.
