SRINAGAR: Eighteen persons, including five militants and three security men, were killed and 30 militants captured in Kashmir since last week.

Seven persons, including two security men, two children and a woman, were killed and five others wounded in two separate incidents in Ananinag district last week, official sources said.

The sources said militants detonated a mine during a search operation at Sirhama seriously injuring a Security man; The injured jawan and two other Jawans boarded a private vehicle and ‘were on way to Srinagar Base Hospital when another mine blast occurred at Kiran, killing two security personnel and two persons travelling in the vehicle. The third jawan escaped with serious injuries.

Two children and a woman were killed and four others, including a policeman, injured when security forces allegedly opened fire after the mine explosion at Sirharna, the sources said. They said a Border Security Force jawan succumbed to his wounds. The jawan was wounded in an encounter with militants at Rainawari earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, security forces held a free medical aid camp where they treated 900 persons and distributed medicines among the patients at Sonamarg on Srinagar-Leh national highway. The spokesman said religious place and five residential houses were torched by militants in Anantanag district.
