CHANDIGARH: Eight silver and five bronze this was the medal haul of Punjab swimmers at the 36th National School Swimming Championship held at Solapur in the under-19 and under-17 age-groups.

The breakdown of the medals was two silver and one bronze (senior boys) five silver and one bronze (junior boys) and one silver and three bronze (senior girls)

The swimmers got these medals in spite ‘of the meet being held in winter when the state swimmers were without practice because the cold-wave.

This was the best performance by Pun+ jab swimmer who benefited from the special coaching camps held in the summer season.

According to’ Mr Milkha Singh Director Sports and Youth Programme Punjab Education Department a S0-metre pool with modem facilities had been constructed in the Sports School Complex at Jalandhar where good swimmers would be admitted

More swimming pools would come up in Punjab schools in the eighth five year plan.

Mr Milkha Singh said with the recruitment of four swimming coaches by the department and steps taken to centrally heat the Jalandhar swimming pool the state would produce better swimmers.
