JAMMU: Thirteen people, including ten militants were killed, five others injured and 17 subversives arrested in different incidents in the Kashmir valley since Dec 11.

An official spokesman said that ten infiltrators were killed and one ‘was arrested in the five km border belt in Kupwara district of north Kashmir Tuesday night, while three civilians were killed in cross firing incidents between militants and security forces at Safa Kadal in Srinagar, Budhwani in Anantnag and Pampore in Pulwama districts Wednesday,

The spokesman said two important activists of outlawed Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and JKSLF were among 17 people arrested on Wednesday from different parts of the valley. However, their names were not given.

The security forces recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition from five km belt where 10 militants were killed.

One Riaz Ahmed Sufi at Budhwaniin Anantnag was killed and two others sustained injuries in the cross firing between militants and security forces near Mattan Chowk, Chini Chowk, Lal Chowk, Nai Basti and Jangal Mandi Wednesday afternoon. Sufi Abdul Rauf Wangroo of Safakadal was killed in cross firing in Srinagar on Wednesday. Another unidentified civilian was killed when some militants fired upon security forces at pampore in Pulwama district Tuesday night. The spokesman said the militants hurled a grenade at the picket of security forces near Namichbal on Tuesday and opened fire at different places. Three civilians were injured in the cross fire.
