COLOMBO: At least twelve Sri Lankan soldiers were killed and five others injured in separate confrontations with LTTE militants in Northeastern Sri Lanka.

Seven soldiers were killed and one injured when a security force patrol was ambushed at Palampatara on Trincomalee Habarana road. The militants also took away six rifles and a large quantity of ammunition from the dead soldiers, military officials here said.

In another ambush at Kathankudy in Eastern Batticaloa one soldier was killed and three others injured.
