JAMMU: Over a hundred militants were arrested by security forces aided by army commandoes who conducted massive raids across Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, through last night to apprehend the killers of three officials.

The security forces also took into custody five workers of different political groups.

Official reports here said the hardcore militants were among 70 odd extremists nabbed when security forces combed Batmaloo Chanpora and Nattipora localities in Srinagar.

Officials said over 75 militants and their sympathisers were arrested in Batmaloo.

Seven suspected militants were gunned down by security forces somewhere in the URI sector while they were attempting to cross over into Pakistan.

The incident according to officials occurred in the five kilometer zone on the line of actual control where dusk to dawn curfew restrictions have been clamped by authorities.
