CHICAGO: Sikhs from Chicago, Milwankee (Wis) participated in the protest demonstration on November 7, 1988 to register their protest for Bidar killings and the Holocaust of 1984.
The rally was organized by Surinderpal Singh Kalra, Director of Administration WSO and coordinated by Dr. Jagmit Singh, Ranbir Singh and Parminder Singh, on the visit of Indian Ambassador Mr. Kaul to Milwaukee.
In spite of the rain, the protestors rallied for about one and a half hour. They raised slogans and ‘distributed leaflets to highlight the violation of human rights of Sikhs by the Government of India. Scores of meaningful placards symbolized the sentiments of the participants. Addressing the rally, Surinderpal Singh Kalra, in the context of the events that had happened in the last four years, made it very clear that the Sikhs feel insecure and discriminated in India to the extent that they are left with no choice other than having their own country. In the words of Ras Amrit Singh from Madison, “There has not passed one month in the life of India, as an independent nation that has not been scarred by some display of aggression by the majority Hindus against minorities like Christians, Muslims and Sikhs.” Bhai Amarjeet Singh stressed upon Naam Simran which can provide the necessary strength to meet the current crisis on Panth. The rally came to a close with five Jaikaras of Bole So Nihal, Sat Siri Akal.
