CALCUTTA Reuter: A sartorial slipup by West Indies cricket Captain Viv Richards spoiled his plans for spending New Year’s Eve at a Calcutta nightclub.

Richards, accompanied by Indian film star Nina Gupta, was barred from the Saturday club party because his Jeans, sports shirt and blazer did not make the grade.

“Our rules do not permit entry to members or guests coming without a suit and tie on formal occasions”, said a Saturday club spokesman. “We do not see why we should bend out rules just because he is a famous cricketer”. Richards, who was leading the West Indies in a one day interactional against India in Calcutta on Saturday, ‘was not available for comment.
