CHANDIGARH: Simranjit Singh Mann who heads the largest Akali group faces a serious threat to his life from Indian Lions an underground organization said to be sponsored by the government of India.
Indian Lions earlier claimed responsibility for the murder of Major Baldey Singh Ghuman and the attempted assassination both Akali Dal Mann leaders. The Indian Lions in a statement circulated secretly asked Mann to face them in a head on fight. The press note bore the names of Dayal Singh, Rajesh Kant and Ajit Singh.
The five members Panthic Committee headed by Bhai Usmanwalla claimed in statement that it had identified members of the Indian Lions and that they would be finished within two months. The panthic committee comprising Amnk Singh Harshowal, Gurdas Singh Fauji, Gurjit Singh and Gurmel Singh claimed that the Lions had been set up by Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal and Akal
Dal Badal chief P.S Badal.
A deputation of Akali Dal M of P.S. Sidhu, Rajinder Kaur Bulara and Charanjit Singh Walia met governor Verma to seek arms license for the party workers so that they could protect themselves from attacks from Indian Lions. The Dal M workers alleged that governor Verma insulted Bulara by saying that her husband Prof Rajinderpal Singh was a dacoit. Meanwhile Punjab Bahujan Samaj Party President Mohan Singh and MP Harbhajan Lakha in a joint statement condemned the attacks on Dal M leaders and said the state had made no attempt to safeguard the life and property of the people.
