MADRAS: The government in southern Indian Tamil, Nadu state warned Sri Lankan Tamils “living Or moving about,” in the state since 1983 without any valid documents that severe penal action; would be taken if they did not furnish their names, addresses and ‘Occupations to the nearest police station within seven days.

An official press release said! Here, “such persons were acting in a manner prejudicial to India’s security and relations with foreign countries. The state Government therefore, considered it necessary to regulate their continued presence in India.”
