There is not even a presence left of rule of law, forget democracy in India, All systems of government and other institutions, never very strong to begin with, have virtually collapsed. This situation of anarchy and chaos is particularly disturbing in Punjab.
The police are a law unto themselves. They pick up anyone at will. Relatives rush to the courts which sometimes tell the police to produce the illegally detained persons.
Recently there has been a rash of cases where the police not only flouted the orders of courts but have actually shot at court officials who went to the jails with warrants for the detainees. In one instance, the detainees were mercilessly beaten in the presence of the warrant officer. A case was also registered against the detainees while the warrant officer was still in the jail.
In another instance a warrant officer was shot at by a Central Reserve Police Force man, High Court orders are similarly flouted with impunity by the subordinate courts. Little wonder that international human rights organisations like Amnesty International are not allowed in the beleaguered state despite the beating India’s image has received internationally.
Another Senior Superintendent of Police, Sumedh Saini is following in the footsteps of the Butcher of Batala, Gobind Ram. Saini goes into the homes of private citizens late at night and supervises the torture of women personally. He even slaps and pushes around children and the elderly.
Ten Sikh men on a pilgrimage were pulled off a bus by the police and killed the next day. The police claimed they had killed 10 “hard core terrorists”. Among the killed was a 15-year-old boy. But there were eyewitnesses who were brave enough to discount the police versions. The media which had promptly splashed the police version had to change its story. There was a big uproar in Parliament. The UP state Govt, more to pre-empt the Union Govt in instituting an investigation than to get at the truth, ordered a judicial inquiry. The track record of judicial inquiries is that nothing ever comes of them. The Brahman police chief of Pilibhit, where this ghastly “encounter” took place was transferred to facilitate an “impartial” inquiry. The whole police force in the area went on strike until it was assured that no one would be punished,
Not a day goes by when less than 20 to 30 Sikhs are killed in Punjab by the police and paramilitary. Who are these people? They are innocent men and women caught up in a macabre brahminical dance of death, Sukhbir Singh Dhillon an American citizen from New York had gone to Punjab for his sister’s marriage. He was picked up by the police and later shot dead.
How long can this go on? It must stop and the only way to do it is for the Sikh nation to stand as one man to oppose the tyranny and abject slavery imposed upon us by the evil Brahman empire.
