NEW DELHI(PTI): Janata Dal leader and former Premier V.P.Singh, Aug.22 left the capital on a self-imposed exile vowing not to return until the Center implemented job reservation for back ward classes in government services.
Singh, who mounted a flower bedecked green “Sadhbhayna Rath” (amity chariot) at the end of an affectionate farewell function, said either he would return to wear a garland after the first appointment was made under the reserved quota for backward classes or only his body would return to Delhi.
A large gathering of Janata Dal workers and Singh’s well-wishers assembled at the residence of JD Parliamentary Party leader, Shared Yadav, for the farewell function interposed between slogan shouting and cheering.
A number of party MPs’, including former home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayed, Ram Vilas Paswan, S.Jaipal Reddy, Nitish Kumar, were among those present on the occasion.
After a tour of some areas of the capital the convoy accompanying Singh would halt at Ghaziabad Sunday night for a public meeting. From there Singh would continue his tour of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on his first leg of the latest campaign.
Singh had told reporters Saturday that he would not apply for condo nation of his absence from the Lok Sabha and was not bothered about losing his seat.
