Golly, and the week started so well for te San Francisco 49ers, 100.

They won the Super Bowl and had the parade. But look what’s happened once the ‘band stopped playing. The coach its gone. The star receiver is mad. Is Bud having the same hang over after its big victory over Bud Light?

The 49ers stole this decade, lack. Stock and lckey Shuffle, but the ringleader of the ‘gang has moved upstairs. Bill Walsh took his leave Thursday. The brains of the ‘operation now will push paper rather than post patterns. Don’t send him plays, send pencils. When you say 9 10 5, that’s his schedule now, not his team’s odds against the Rams.

He will be replaced by defensive coordinator George Seifer, who is no dummy They could hang his defensive game plans in the Louvre. But you don’t lose a winning leader without it affecting your winning or leading. Seifert has big headphones 0 fill.

Meanwhile, Jerry Rice is angry that more has not been made of his Super Bowl. He said 10 a Bay Area television station that he had been overlooked, saying he didn’t think it was racism in the media, and then hinting that it was.

Of course, he did win the MVP. And that was voted by the media.

“Right now the way things are looking, Tm not going to get nothing out of being MVP, he said. “Just the name, MUP that’s it

Of course, he did get a new car for being MUP the one he was voted for by the media.

“I have so many cars now, don’t know what I’m going 0 do with a Subaru,” he said.

Yeah, Jerry, all of us underexposed guys have that problem, Heaven forbid if you had to add on (0 your garage. And then there’s the license plate fees and insurance.

Iris getting a little hard figuring out these triumphant 49ers.

By most accounts, owner Eddie DeBartolois tickled pink at Walsh leaving coaching. For some reason he can get along with man who has produced three world championships. “It like a bad divorce with these guys, “one source told The Associated Press:

Walsh is not without ego and occasionally comes off as arrogant. Some of it apparently could be grating, 0 the owner no bastion of modesty himself and to the media, But none of it takes points off the scoreboard, where coaches are ultimately judged. Who cares if your cocky if you keep beating the Bears?

“The only problem the media in the Bay Area has with me is I’ve been coach for 10 years.” Walsh said the other day. “They’re semi bored with me.”

He did not act like a lot of coaches, did not talk like a lot of coaches. There was a different style, maybe some of it was pastry a cultivated act to build a public image.

Who knows? Who cares? The man won big.

From an outside view, it seems astound. In that the 49ers would not have gone every mile to keep Walsh as coach. DeBartolo should have offered him the world, plus a couple of his shopping malls. This team one should recall was 214 the year Walsh hit own and had gone through five head coaches in four years.

Successful, confident people can be hard to live with. But they can be harder to live without So the 49ers will have to make do with their questions.

Can Seifert, a man of few words, low emotion and high IO not only do the job but crack a smile by the season opener?

Will inactivity reduce Walsh to walking the stadium concourse on Sunday in desperation, offering handouts with his 25 first plays 10 passerby’s?

Will Jerry Rice calm down and realize the only two people in Florida last weekend! who got more ink were Ted Bundy and Joc Montana and he is neither condemned nor quarterback?

‘Stay 1uned for answers.

The 49ers title defensive has already begun with a scramble. They should remember what the little guy who walked in back of the Roman generals during victor) parades whispered: “All glory is fleeting.”
