AMRITSAR, Punjab, India: The Unified Akali Dal has demanded the release of four Sikh high priests, including Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh and UAD President Simranjit Singh Mann without delay.
Mr, Jasbir Singh, nephew of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, and three other high priests, Mr. Savinder Singh, Mr. Kashmir Singh and Mr. Jaswant Singh, are currently lodged in different jails on the sedition charge,
The demand was made in a resolution adopted at an emergency meeting of the UAD held at the Teja Singh Samundari Hall at the Golden Temple Complex here,
The meeting also reiterated the Dal’s demands, including the repeal of “black” laws, stop police entry into Sikh shrines and “fake” encounters, general amnesty for the Sikh youth and the release of “innocent” Jodhpur detainees.
Among those who addressed the meeting of circle Jathedars included party General Secretary Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, District Dal (Rural) President Mohan Singh Mattia, Jathedar Tarlochan Singh Tur, MP, and UAD women wing leader Kuldip Kaur.
