LUCKNOW: The Congressmen in Uttar Pradesh, on Jan.8, launched a decisive battle against the AICC president, P.V. Narasimha Rao, by unanimously demanding his ouster. In open defiance of Jitendra Prasad’s nomination as PCC president, the Congress workers reaffirmed their faith in N.D.Tiwari and Gopi Nath Dixit
Amid continuous downpour and chilling winds, a large number of PCC members launched a “Narasimha Rao batao and Sonia Gandhi lao” campaign. Senior Leaders including Mrs. Mohsina Kidwaj. Brahma Dutt, Arun Kumar Singh Munna, Akbar Ahmad Dumpy, who had come here to participate in the “satyagraha” meeting, also gave their assent to a resolution than Gopi Nath Dixit and not Jitendra Prasad should lead the agitation until the general body meeting of the PCC.
Setting the tone for the meeting, Dumpy exhorted the Congressmen, “You have to choose between the Congress Party and Narasimha Rao.” The crowd responded by shouting. “Narasimha Rao nattayenge, Congress bachayenge.”
Overwhelming support of the UP Congressmen to Tiwari made it amply clear that irrespective of the Prime Minister’s attitude towards their demand for withdrawal of support to Mulayam Singh Yadav Government, they were still with Tiwari.
The very first resolution out of six passed at the meeting said that the state Congress had full faith in Tiwari as he was the only leader who could guide the party to a better political prospects. The meeting openly challenged Rao’s decision to accept Tiwan’s resignation and appoint his crony, Jitendra Prasad as PCC president
The state Congressmen launched another salvo against the party high command by demanding immediate revocation of suspension of Mrs Sheila Dixil, K.N. Singh. Makhan Lal Fotedar and Natwar Singh from active membership of the party.
