NEW DELHI: Former Premier V.P, Singh last week expressed confidence that the Third Front government with support from Congress would come to power at the Center and “there was no reason for it to fall” as both the groups shared: commonalities and would iron out their differences.

Addressing a press conference, Singh said the recent political developments had two positive aspects the solidarity of the Third Force and their regional allies and the Congress statement that they would vote against the BJP Government and support the secular format on. “With the positions crystallized now, there is no chance for the BJP Government 10 survive” the confidence Voter Singh Stating that coalition and consensual politics had come to stay in India, Singh said the Third Front and the Congress would arrive at a common agreed program which would be “furthered and finalised” in the coming, days, The crucial issues that the politics of volition would: face Would be on economic, defence and foreign policies, he said, adding while there was consensus on defence and foreign issues, the commonalities in the economic policies would have to be consolidated and the sharp differences deferred for resolution at a later stage. “Common areas in the economic policy could be demarcated and i ‘would be good for the countries the: was flexibility on both sides,” Singh said He suggested both the Third From and Congress should set up “contact groups” which would open up and strengthen communication and common approach between the two formations. The two positive developments pointed out by him was the fact AGP, DMK, Tehugu Desam (N) had taken a clear-cut stand about supporting and strengthening the Third Front The former Premier, however, ruled out any ‘merger’ with Congress or any split in the Congress as both groups Were in agreement that the country needed a democratic and secular government.
