NAPIER,(New Zealand): India’s Sachin Tendulkar has impressed players, past and present, with his batting talent and skill.
The Kiwis consider Tendulkara prodigy and feel he will soon blossom in to a batting might -a view shared by Indian team manager Bishen Singh Bedi.
Bedi was not unduly perturbed over Tendulkar’s failure to get his maiden test century at the age of 16 years and 201 days. Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammed holds the record of being the youngest centurian at the age of 17 years and 82 days.
Bedi felt Tendulkar was far more mature than his age allowed him to be. “He has a sharp mind and a ‘very cool head over his shoulders,”” Bedi said.
Tendulkar has a very peculiar, unorthodox grip. He plays with a bat, which is extra-ordinarily heavy. This prevents him from cutting, pulling and hooking a5 fluently as he should.
Bedi said this was no time to advise him what he should do and what he shouldn’t. “I will suggest to him later to practice in off-season and he should himself sort out whether he should change his grip and use a lighter bat,” said Bedi.
‘According to Bedi, Tendulkar is a natural ball player and bis natural instinct and tendencies should not be curbed at all at any stage.
Bedi has described Sir Donald Bradman as “‘unsurpassable batsman.” But he admitted he saw “Brahmanism’ Tendulkar,
