TARN TARAN: The tiff between the administration and the police has created a piquant situation in this border town with residents up in arms against the Sub divisional Magistrate over his “indifferent” attitude towards their problems and demands.

In support of their demand to transfer the SDM and in protest against the shifting of the main bus stand to the outskirts, the entire town today. Observed a complete bandh the call for which was given by various local political parties and eminent citizens. Agitated, the residents took out a big procession in the morning and held demonstrations at several places.

Later, a rally was held on the Goindwal road bypass, in which political leaders accused the civil authorities of turning a blind eye to the problem faced by the residents.

When contacted Mr. Avinder Singh blamed the police for the “trouble” and said that certain police officials were instigating the people against him.

The controversy arising out of the shifting of bus stand to the Tarn TaranJandiala road about 4 km from the town, has been raging for the last four months, and it owes its origin to the cold war going on between the administration and the police here.

Mr. Avinder Singh said the bus stand was shifted in view of the heavy traffic, leading to congestion. On the main road. The entry of all buses into the town had been banned as there was frequent traffie chaos.

Since then resentment has prevailed among the residents and a deputation of them had called on Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Sarabjit Singh, who had agreed to allow buses coming from Tarn Taran or terminating here to be allowed to pass through the town.
